What is Gender?

Gender is a social construct that refers to the roles, behaviors, activities, and attributes that a culture associates with being male or female. Gender is not the same as sex, which is a biological category that refers to the physical characteristics that define a person as male or female. Gender is learned and reinforced through socialization, which is the process by which individuals learn the values, beliefs, and behaviors that are acceptable in their culture.

What is Queer?

Queer is a term that is used to describe people who do not identify as heterosexual or cisgender. Cisgender is a term that is used to describe people whose gender identity matches the sex they were assigned at birth. Queer can be used as an umbrella term to describe people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or asexual. It can also be used to describe people who do not fit into any of these categories.

What is Sexual Identity?

Sexual identity is a person's self-identification as heterosexual, gay, lesbian, bisexual, or asexual. Sexual identity is often based on a person's sexual orientation, which is the direction of a person's sexual and romantic attraction. Sexual orientation is not the same as gender identity, which is a person's self-identification as male, female, or non-binary.

What is Sexual Orientation?

Sexual orientation is the direction of a person's sexual and romantic attraction. Sexual orientation can be heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual, or asexual. Heterosexual is the attraction to members of the opposite sex. Homosexual is the attraction to members of the same sex. Bisexual is the attraction to both men and women. Asexual is the lack of sexual attraction to others.

Agender is a term that is used to describe people who do not identify with any gender at all.
