First Minister's brother-in-law appears in court on drugs charges

Police Scotland said that Haroon Yousaf, 34, has been charged in connection with alleged drug offences

All three accused appeared in private at Dundee Sheriff Court

Harun Yousaf, 34, the brother-in-law of First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, has appeared in court charged with abduction and extortion following an incident where a man was allegedly attacked and forced to hand over cash in Dundee.

Yousaf appeared alongside two other men, aged 31 and 35, at Dundee Sheriff Court on Tuesday. All three accused made no plea and were remanded in custody.

They are due to appear in court again at a later date.

Police Scotland said that Yousaf has been charged in connection with alleged drug offences. The charges relate to an incident in Dundee on March 20.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Officers were called to a property in Whitfield Crescent, Dundee, shortly after 10pm on March 20, following a report of a man having been assaulted and robbed. The man was taken to hospital for treatment of his injuries."

"As a result of the investigation, three men have been arrested and charged in connection with the incident. They are due to appear in court at a later date."

The charges against Yousaf are the latest in a series of legal troubles for the brother-in-law of the First Minister.

In 2019, Yousaf was jailed for two years after admitting to punching a man on the head in a Glasgow nightclub.

He was also banned from driving for four years after being caught behind the wheel of a car while under the influence of alcohol.

The charges against Yousaf are a reminder of the challenges faced by those in public life and the importance of upholding the law.
